The Journal of Informatics and Web Engineering (JIWE) is an international, peer-reviewed journal that advances the engineering of user-centric, web-native information systems. We published original research, reviews, and case studies that unite informatics with rigorous web-engineering methods across the full lifecycle, from requirements and design to deployment and evolution. Priority areas include web engineering and applied informatics, artificial intelligence or machine learning on the web, cybersecurity, privacy, trust, and emerging digital technologies such as IoT, blockchain, big data, and visual analytics. Submissions must demonstrate methodological rigor, empirical evaluation, and clear relevance to the engineering of web systems.

Our mission was to foster a global community of researchers and practitioners committed to building reliable, scalable, and secure web applications with demonstrable real-world impacts.

Aim

The Journal of Informatics and Web Engineering (JIWE) is an international peer-reviewed venue that advances the engineering of user-centric, web-native information systems. We publish original, high-quality research that unites the principles of informatics with the disciplined methods of web engineering across the full system lifecycle: requirements, design, development, deployment, and evolution. JIWE values methodological rigor and practical impacts, welcoming contributions that introduce models, architectures, algorithms, tools, and empirical studies that measurably improve the conception and construction of complex web systems are conceived and built. By treating the creation of modern web systems as a rigorous engineering discipline grounded in information, data, and human–computer interaction, JIWE fosters a vibrant community of researchers and practitioners committed to reliability, scalability, security, accessibility, and sustained real-world relevance.

(The aim has been revised since 2025; JIWE has adjusted its editorial scope. Indeed, while past volumes have dealt with more general topics in computer science, all subsequent issues will adhere to this revised focus in order to provide our readers and contributors with greater depth, specialization, and relevance).

Scope

JIWE welcomes the original research articles, comprehensive reviews, and insightful case studies. In line with our strategic focus, we are particularly interested in submissions within the following high-impact areas.

  • Web Engineering and Applied Informatics: Methodologies, tools, and techniques for developing web information systems, requirements engineering, conceptual modeling, usability and accessibility, quality metrics and testing, and mobile and ubiquitous web applications.
  • Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning on the Web: Engineering of intelligent web agents, integration of deep learning in web platforms, data mining and knowledge discovery, and design of web-based recommender systems.
  • Cybersecurity, Privacy, and Trust: Network security for web systems, privacy-preserving data management, cryptography and encryption methods for web applications, and authentication and access control engineering.
  • Emerging Digital Technologies: Engineering decentralized applications using blockchain, development of Internet of Things (IoT) platforms, and web-based systems for Big Data, visual analytics, and visual computing.

Scope Limitations

Submissions that are purely theoretical without a clear application to web systems, describe specific technologies without rigorous evaluation, or lack a clear contribution to the engineering lifecycle or informatics principles are generally considered out of scope.
